“To me, painting is just constantly making mistakes and then trying to fix them.”
Emily Pauls’ paintings focus on creating a sense of atmosphere through seemingly random objects. Placed on a background of intuitive mixed media, together these objects portray a vibe. Text and patterns peek out of layers of paint and pastel in the background further adding to the overall ambiance of each unique piece. In a sense, her goal is to create an impression of personality, a person-less portrait.
Originally from Jackson Hole Wyoming, Emily now resides near Seattle Washington. Much of her inspiration comes from the natural world and classic cars. When she’s not in the art studio, she can be found working with her husband on 80s-00s Japanese cars, practicing yoga, or walking Linus, the dog.
